Importance of Baby Formula for Women with Health Issues And Other Concerns

baby formula for women with health issues

Being a new mom is so many emotions wrapped in one. You and your baby are off on your new adventure together.

Between sleep deprivation, your hormones, and working your new stroller and don’t even get us started on breastfeeding! Of course, everything is new and at times scary even.

On the subject of breastfeeding, if you underestimated just how hard it was going to be, you are not alone.

In fact, oftentimes due to nipple pains and a mix of health problems, women will often choose to formula feed their infants.

Interestingly enough, a recent study done at Cambridge University in England found that babies who were formula fed cry less and are easier to get to sleep.

Baby formula might just be the best way to go, especially if you have health issues or other that prevent you from being able to breastfeed with easy.

All in all, if you are in the midst of deciding the type of baby formula you should go with, here is some vital information you should have!

What is organic baby formula?

We recommend that if you do breastfeed your child, one should definitely go the organic route.

Organic baby formula is comprised of soy products, or cow’s milk (or protein hydrolysate for babies with soy allergies).

The biggest difference between organic and non-organic formula is that the ingredients in organic baby formula have not been in contact with any chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides, etc.

Often, in fact, the formula is held to a strict standard by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, in order to ensure the nutritional value it has and overall, to prevent infant health risks.

In addition, organic baby formula must also be certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

What are the benefits of organic baby formula?

A lot of great nutrients!

Organic baby formula has more vitamins, antioxidants, and more polyunsaturated fatty acids than normal formula. These are all essential for infant cognitive and physical development.

No GMO’s and is Environmentally friendly!

Of course, as with all things organic, organic baby formula is just as good for the earth as it is for your baby.

In addition to all the extra nutrients, no genetically modified substances are to be found in your organic milk.

Your purchase of organic formula sends the message that you are all for feeding animals the natural way.

It can be great is you for women with health issues!

The fewer chemicals in your baby’s body mean that one is less likely to get lung damage, immune system problems, or nervous system injuries.

These are all possible issues the result from having pesticides in your body.

If you have certain health issues, and genetically your baby might as well, baby formula can be a way to alleviate you from the stress of breastfeeding. Therefore, baby formula benefits both your health and your baby’s.

Specific things to look for in your baby formula:

One ingredient to you will want in your formula is DHA which is a fatty acid that can increase and improve visual processing and cognitive ability. It is commonly found in baby formula but is not required. So be sure to look out for it.

One should also look out for all those vitamins that are naturally found in breastmilk such as docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid, choline, and fatty acids. it is important to know that your formula has them as well!

Since these are naturally in your milk, you better make sure they are in your formula as well!

Common types of organic baby formula

Of course, different babies have different needs.

For example, an infant can be lactose-intolerant which means you must choose a lactose-free formula.

Also, as previously mentioned, babies sometimes have soy intolerance and even allergies to cow’s milk.

Here is a list of our favorite types of baby formula, all organic.

An important, unique aspect of Hipp is that the product does not contain nucleotides.

Nucleotides are organic molecules that play a certain role at the fundamental, cellular level.

However, Hipp does not include them in their baby formula recipe under the pretext that babies make nucleotides for themselves from amino acids. As a result, they are not needed in the ingredients.

Holle milk is a quality organic brand which does not compromise on flavor or nutrients.

The company started over 80 years ago and are focused on the naturalness of the product, using only raw ingredients. They even have some which include goats milk!

Some professionals say Aptamil is closest to breastmilk, but it all a personal choice.

AptamilInfant Formula was created for children from birth to six months old. It is nutritionally charged and great from colicky babies, according to moms!

This milk is actually made by Holle. Some aspects of the baby formula that the company prides itself on are the non-usage of GMO, flavors or preservatives. It is easy to digest as well as gluten-free!

Some last tips…

Take a careful eye to the ingredient label on your baby formula. Not all baby formula is to be treated equally!

Also, one must know and understand the needs of their baby before understand what you need to look for in your milk.

Consult your pediatrician for other recommendations on what to look for in your formula. Your baby might have specific needs that you’ll want to take care of!

Lastly, as your baby grows and changes (fast!) you’ll want to make sure you stay on top of those changes. In other words, changing your baby formula as your baby changes may be a great idea!

We mentioned a few organic baby formula marks here, but keep in mind there are many, many more — each with its own unique benefits.

Our most important Do’s and Don’ts for best baby formula practices

Knowing what works best for your child means that you’ll want to start with the basics.

That’s why this list can help you get on the right track to the best baby formula and feeding for your child!

Keep reading to find out some of our top Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to feeding your baby and getting things done right.

Don’t settle for products on store shelves

Formuland’s biggest goal is to help parents figure out what formula brands are really good for your child.

Many of the formula brands that stores stock on their shelves are from big brand names, but they may not actually be as trustworthy as you think.

A lot of the baby formulas that you can buy from a store have hidden ingredients that you should avoid.

This includes soy (unless your baby is lactose intolerant), palm oil, any sweeteners, DHA/ARA, carrageenan, or preservatives.

If you want to make sure that you are doing a great job bottle feeding with the best baby formula brands, keep an eye on that label!

Do sterilize all of your bottle accessories

Many baby products come already packaged so that they can stay clean in the stores and throughout transit.

But you will want to make sure that you take the time to sterilize all of your bottle accessories to keep your baby safe from harmful bacteria or dirt.

To sterilize your baby’s items, you have a few great options!

One of the most popular methods to sterilize baby accessories is to boil them in water for up to 5 minutes. This will kill any bacteria that’s left on the item, like bottles or nipples.

You could also purchase an electronic steamer which lets you fill the machine with items to sterilize and let it work its magic. Similarly, you could also purchase microwavable steam bags to do the same job.

No matter which you pick, one of the best practices you could do is to keep things sterile.

Don’t use any products not labeled GMO-Free

The bottles and nipples you use to feed your baby are its lifeline. It’s where they get their food from as you two continue bonding throughout the day.

But, you will want to make sure that these accessories aren’t also feeding your baby harmful chemicals through their plastic.

We recommend using glass baby bottles or checking to see that they are labeled GMO-Free.

GMOS are genetically modified organisms and even though the medical community is torn about whether or not consuming GMOs is bad for you, they can cause reactions within your body.

These new organisms can cause new allergies or illnesses within your body and your baby could be susceptible to new problems if they are given products with GMOs.

Do use boiled water for your formula

Here’s a major Do: use boiled water for your formula.

If you simply fill the bottle with warmed water straight from the tap, you could be increasing your baby’s exposure to lead and harmful waterborne bacteria.

A 2014 report by the US Center for Disease Control found that viruses like the Norovirus, Salmonella, and even Hepatitis A were found in the public water system.

Because these types of bacteria are so dangerous and difficult to manage, giving your baby the cleanest water possible is always the best choice.

We recommend running your tap for around 30 seconds and then filling a pot with as much water as you’ll need for your feeding.

Let the water boil then cool to your desired temperature before mixing in the formula and feeding your baby!

Don’t keep mixed formula for too long

Using baby formula means that you can have a meal ready to go in just a few minutes.

But, you will want to make sure that you aren’t preparing too much at a time so that you can continue to give your baby the freshest supply.

This means that formula sitting out should be thrown away after around an hour. Make sure you extra formula that’s been refrigerated within 48 hours of mixing it together.

If formula stays out too long, it’s possible that bacteria from the room can flourish within the formula. Because baby’s mouths also have bacteria, throwing out unused formula can also prevent your baby from ingesting that.

Do work on a bottle-feeding schedule

One of the biggest hurdles that parents face is getting their child on a good feeding schedule.

You can begin working towards a schedule from the start.

Newborns should be fed whenever they are hungry, but you can soon begin to work towards feedings every 3-4 hours so keep them satisfied.

With a schedule, you’ll be able to know when to begin sanitizing and mixing– or how much formula to mix for the day so that you’ll be prepared.

Why GMO-Free Baby Formula is the Right Choice for Your Child

Why GMO-Free Baby Formula is the Right Choice

Every parent wants the best for their child. They want their baby to grow up to be healthy, happy, and smart. Whenever a parent cradles their baby, dreams of a successful career and future family for their child are all hopes of a new parent.

It’s true that our children deserve the best. The world has been on a path to giving ourselves the best when it comes to nutrition and lifestyle.

The movement towards organic food is huge, especially because so many harmful chemicals find their way into our foods.

It turns out that our foods are filled with harmful chemicals that are seemingly “invisible” when we buy them. Even our produce is modified and there seems to be nothing we can do about it. Studies have found that aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup, and MSG are still common across the shelves.

So, what is a mother to do when looking for the right formula for her baby?

There are so many different brands and options on store shelves, but there is a problem: the great majority, if not all, the formulas sold in stores contain chemicals and GMO products.

Formuland specializes in bringing organic and GMO-free baby formula to the US so that mothers can give their babies the best without having to wonder what’s in the formula. We’ve been in the business since 2011 and proudly serve our customers with the best products.

We understand that each child deserves the best and needs good, healthy nutrition to keep growing up into a strong and healthy individual. That’s why we find it so important to keep moms and dads up-to-date with the latest info.

After you finish reading this helpful guide, make sure to check out our other blogs to read up on topics like getting a work-life balance and what to do if your baby won’t bottle feed.

Why you’ll want to dig deeper than just “organic”

It’s hard enough to figure out what’s healthy and what’s not with our adult food. The healthy foods aisle is often filled with sweets and other items that claim to be healthy and offer you fiber and nutrition. A deeper look into these products often reveals artificial sweeteners and other harmful ingredients.

But when it comes to your baby and the formula you are feeding them, these chemicals and ingredients can cause immediate problems as well as ones later on.

So how do you figure out right from wrong?

You’ll want to stay away from those brands you can find in any big name store. Even the most well-known brands aren’t exactly known for putting the best ingredients in their formulas.

And, even organic baby formula needs a second look since many organic products can still contain GMOs!

Here is also an interesting article about benefits of organic food:

What are GMOS?

Before you can even figure out what route is best to take when feeding your baby, you should have a good idea of what GMOS are.

The name “GMO” is short for genetically modified organism. This means that some of the ingredients that you see on your label aren’t what they seem. If it’s a GMO ingredient, it’s actually a lab-made version of what you think you’re eating.

Many people believe that eating the most natural food is best, and we agree.

GMOS are harsh products that cannot be certainly traced to their own ingredients. According to the Non-GMO Project page, GMOs are usually unnatural combinations of plant, animal, virus, and bacteria genes to create a new product.

The negatives of GMOs

Because we believe this is an important topic, Formuland wanted to give you all the information about the negatives of consuming GMOs.

Food allergies

The occurrence of food allergies has been on the rise, and many people are linking this to the growth of GMOs in our foods.

Most importantly, GMO products can create or heighten the possibility of an allergic reaction to soy products. Allergic reactions to foods appear as soon as the first time you eat your trigger, but they can also appear after the food is eaten several times. Because GMOs use

Because GMOs use foreign DNA to create their hybrid products, extra care should be taken to look for reactions after eating a food with GMOs for the first few times.

Birth defects

There has been a link between GMO products and birth defects. Unfortunately, many communities don’t have a say in whether or not the produce they are given has been modified, so the health community is left to fight for those affected: babies.

Hawaii experienced a spike in birth defects and now an investigation is going into the GMO corn crop that many people have been consuming.

In animal studies, the consequences of GMO food is even more criminalizing. Some animals have been shown to have major deformities in their spines and legs, making the connection between GMOs and defects all the more clear!

Similarly to birth defects, GMOs have been linked to cancers. Studies have shown that these products can cause kidney damage, hormonal changes, and cancers in animal tests.

Though there haven’t been many studies on humans, since it is still too soon to get decisive results due to the relative newness of widespread GMO, this is still enough for us to advise everyone to avoid these harmful products.

So you’ve decided on GMO-free baby formula. What now?

Giving your baby GMO-free formula is a good decision for mothers looking to provide their babies with the best nutrition that also minimizes their chances for allergies, stomach discomfort, and some diseases. But where can you get this type of formula?

Products with GMOs are unlabeled in the US, which is why it’s so hard to find something that you can be sure is organic and GMO-free! Thankfully, Europe banned GMOs and is able to provide mothers with formula they can trust.

Formuland strives to bring the best products to parents in the US, so we recommend checking out brands like Hipp, Holle, Aptamil, Lebenswert, and Topfer. You can find them on our website and make sure to contact us with any questions you have!
